Saturday's Hunt - Buttons galore!

New member
Went out Saturday with a couple of friends. Only one coin surfaced, an 1827? Large cent, Chris found. The rest were mostly buttons, at least for me anyways. 26 buttons. These sites were hit very hard, and it seems all that person was after, was the coins!!! A thorough job of it. Coins here are scarce. Only 2 coins in 2 trips. The first picture has the keepers for the day. The second picture shows some of the better buttons up close. The large cloak Tombac (with hole), has a "N" above the hole and a "NW" scratched to the left of it. It seems that some kid was going to make a compass out of it, but never finished the job. All in all it was a hot, thirsty, weary trudge through the woods. I wouldn't have it any other way. HH all.

wow, coinnut, what a nice haul of buttons. i wouldn't know how to act finding that many in one day! looks like most of 'em are colonial or post colonial. it seems you have plenty of ground to hunt. wtg, and hh,

Very nice finds, even for buttons, and 1 large, you should hook up on the '' Northeast Metal Detecting forum" and show your finds, love to to see you I there and show your stuff, most of the guys are from the Keene,NH area, thanks and good too you,NH ANDY.

Yea, that's my fourth one. Forgot to mention it. I usually don't dig the iron, especially since this site was loaded with 1850's steel. But large iron seems to give off a different signal than just flat stock. That's how I get my axes, stirrups and unfortunately Oxen shoes!!! HH
