hunted saturday at a couple different houses, got some clad, some jewelry, odd and ends. Thing that is totally nuts is the ring is MARKED Sterling on the inside but you can clearly see it is peeling off, can you believe they "faked" a silver ring....lol
got a cool button too, it says on it Excelsior, if that means anything to anyone?

Nice variety G4. Too bad about the fake .925 ring. That numbered deal is cool.....whatever it is.
 
Many sterling rings are plated with rhodium which will flake off. The rhodium plating keeps them from tarnishing. See if the metal below the flaking cleans up with silver polish. It might still be sterling.
