Saturday's Colonial Hunt

coinnut

New member
Went out to a couple of hit sites, to try our luck. Did ok. Found a bunch of corroded and broken things. One coin, a George II British copper (common). the bat wing belt buckle is cool, but broken. A bunch of buttons and such and another BIG lock (penny for size). All in all, a good, fun and relaxing hunt. But the ticks are out:veryangry: Going out to Barber territory maybe on Wednesday. Hope to hit it big again. HH everyone

Great finds!!!

Nice finds, coinnut..I like the belt buckle and the buttons

I never saw a bat wing belt buckle like that ...what does that style date back to?

great job scooping up those finds that everyone else missed, those bat wing buckles don't come every day, they display nicely though, thats bad news about the ticks, makes me wan't to get out the flame thrower, good hunt coinnut!

That would be a colonial belt buckle. Could be as old as early 1700's to the end of the 1790's. Depends how old fashioned you are. Hard to date them because things changed slowly back then, especially if you lived in a remote part of the country side.

Hey coinnut nice finds. I found something in ct. that looks alot like that british copper you found but i cant make out and definition on it at all. Ive always been curious as to what it could be. I measured it from side to side and its 1 1/8 inch is that the same as your coin?

Those are some really cool finds.

Our state doesn't have much stuff that old that is not Indian.

Really like your finds.

Thanks for sharing.

HH,

You may not get much, if any, colonial things, but nothing can compare to some of those points that I see posted. Beats a rotted large cent by a mile. Would love to find some points here. Great stuff. I guess we were all meant to collect thing with or without a machine. HH

Hey, My British does measure 1 1/8" across, but you could also have an undersized Conn copper. If you can read NIA on the back instead of ET LIB or see any III or II or I on the front, it's a British. Not a valuable coin. But the exceptions are counterfeits done here, such as Machin Mills or others. If you get a chance, post a picture. Without seeing it, you can't tell if it would clean up better.
