for the longest time when I rode my motorcycle you could see my American flag - on the back of my vest. Most place it over their hearts and I probably would have as well but you see I was making a statement back then. After returning home from Vietnam I found no one gave a rip about the veterans returning from that war. Protestors threw yellow paint and eggs on the uniforms of vets coming 'back home'. The Vietnam vets were not welcomed into the VFW Posts because we 'didn't fight in a war', 'it was only a police action', 'you only killed snakes over there', etc.

So as America turned it back on its veterans, I put the American flag on my back to show the same respect for the country as the country had shown not only to me but my brothers and sisters who served in Vietnam and those who never returned.

Even today VFW Posts only accept Vietnam Vets because their organizations are dying off and they now want us to keep it alive.

My vest has the flag over my heart now only because I changed - not because the nation changed. Used to be veterans got a bit of a hiring preference over those who never did anything for their country. The ACLU has taken that away from the vets - there is no preference any more. The applications ask if you served in the military but that is not a consideration to be hired over another who hasn't served.

The training military personnel receive make them strong leaders in many ways - experiences that non-military could only wish to have - but ya know a degree is more important than experience, leadership skills proven under fire, quick action with quick thinking don't matter. Even if you can't spell or do math without a calculator as long as one has a degree he is hired over the vet in most cases.

When the Vietnam Veterans had a home coming parade in New York, I was in a college class of young kids and the teacher knowing I was a Vietnam Vet asked what I thought of the parade. I said "it is 10 years too late!" (I was a bit more vulgar when I said it - and meant it).

So I just want to say to the other vets - maybe others care - maybe they don't but there is one who does care more than anyone you will ever meet will care and He Is Jesus! And with Jesus you will see the Father who loves you so much that He gave His only Son as a sin sacrifice for our sins - yours and mine. THAT IS LOVE - who can care for you more than that?

Salute to you Vets and God bless you and yours

his name is Bud. He lied about his age (he was 16) to get into WWII. He served in the Navy as a Medic. He has told me about his training and going into the swamps of Florida to get pilots that went down on training missions and what he encountered in the Islands. He now has the nightmares of war and his health is failing. The picture is from 3 years ago at church helping in AWANA. Godly brother. The tears are coming, I need to leave.
