Yesterday, I went to the park that I had found the Barber dime at Wednesday. When I left that park, I took a different route to work, driving through a neighborhood that I hadn't driven through before. I saw an empty lot, posted by the city as "For Sale". I made a mental note to check that lot out.

Well, today was that day. I started searching, and it wasn't long before I started getting good targets, namely Wheat's. They started popping up, from shallow depths, at regular intervals. Then, I got a nice, sweet signal that indicated 3" down. When I flipped over a plug, I saw a nice silver dime looking back at me. Here it is:

Not that far away, I got a signal from 4" down, that ended up being two Wheat's stuck back-to-back together. When the first one came out, and had some crusty green verdigris in a semi-circular shape, I immediately knew that there was another coin in the hole. Prompty, I recovered the second Wheat.

Just a foot away from that signal, I got a very shallow High Coin signal, at an indicated 2". I cut a plug, checked, and nothing. I scanned the hole, target's there. I pulled out the loose dirt and checked it, nothing. I checked my watch, and realized I had better recover this target quick, and scram off to work. I pulled out my Vibraprobe, scanned, and got a signal at 7 o'clock in the hole. I stuck the tip of my digger in, and popped out a divot of dirt, revealing a HUGE reeded silver edge. I immediately started smiling, as I knew I had found a silver half. When I pulled it out of the hole, I saw the eagle on the reverse, and realized I had found a Walking Liberty Half. Here she is:

I love those coins!

If using the 8" and there was alot of trash on the lot, try using the 5". Good luck and love that walking half, always a great find. John

but there are very few areas here that are trashy enough to warrant my little "hockey puck". The past year, I've found that I have better luck in junky spots around here with my 8" coil and Sens. set between 4 - 5. Now, back in OK, I rarely used the 8", but usually the 5" in the REALLY junky areas, and the 10.5" in clean areas.

Love the condition of that walking half...Goes to show one has to keep their eyes open for new spots..Found a small area corner lot and came up with a 1840 large cent and two seated dimes 1875 and 1890...surprised no wheaties or Indians and of course two seated dimes in one day was a first for me. Remember area doesn'r have to be big to produce..
