Saturday demo hunt

Kinda cool here, mid 40's, so we got out late, around 11 am. Hit one demo house lot and Mark and I did pretty good. I got clad: 5 quarters, 13 dimes, 2 nickels, 55 memorials, 26 wheats (earliest was 1920 or 26) and a copper bracelet. Also got a 43 Merc, a 43 and 46 quarter and a 42 D nickel.

Nice finds!!

How do you locate the demo sites?

Here in Houston there is a web site that lists the previous days City of Houston demolition permits. We do a Google on the addresses, from there to a realtor site and get the date of the house build, or go to the county tax site and search the address for the date built. Then we go to the site and if the demo crew is there we ask permission. If there is a realty sign we call the realtor and ask permission. We have never been refused. We have been asked to hunt only while the demo crew is not there to avoid any accidents.

There is a huge amount of old homes coming down and the lots being used for new builds. We like the homes built in the late to early 50's as they were the 'baby boomers' with good jobs and lots of kids to lose coins. Our best lot was 28 silver coins, over 100 wheats, 316 coins total and several pieces of jewelry and toys.

Yesterday, that small house lot also gave up a 44 half, and three more silvers to Mark, and we only covered the front yard.

Hey thats some great input about how you find the demo sites! Great hunting and finds too! A really great post!:clapping:
