National Metal Detecting Day, see

http://gominelabbing.com/ for info.

Closest Hunt I know of is in Rock Island, IL.

Wish we would have known about this earlier. Sounded like a lot of fun too.

Going through the link you gave Steve, we see that you and Pam are affiliated with the group. Is there a reason why PATH wasn't invited?

Shoot, I just this morning scheduled work for Saturday, if we had at least a four day notice, we could have made the event.

I think our club needs to work more closely with the Illinois/Iowa club in the future. It says 220 people were invited but I never saw an invite for PATH members to attend.

I hope some PATH members can attend and win a detector or other prizes and maybe PATH can sponsor the hunt next year........ we sure have older and better parks ....

I don't go to their meetings. Just heard about this yesterday while talking to a guy in Beardstown. I will get more info and post tomorrow.

Darn, I thought you guy's knew about this. I have known about it for a week and a half. I should have posted. My bad.

Last year was the first of this hunt to be promoted in Rock Island and about 40 detectorist showed up. A few silver and wheat cents were found. Hats, flashlights, pens, etc were door prized to the hunters. This year they have a Minelab 305 and pinpointer up for raffle with the usual swag for door prizes. This time the hunt is in Lincoln Park, Rock Island IL. This park is on 13th Ave at the top of the hill bordering on 38th St. The last time I was at this park I found a Ski Mask and a Pistol under it while hunting the trees. I turned it in to the police who IDed it as used in a gas station robery the previous week. If you can go to this hunt please send them or me an email and I will add you to thier guest list.

here is some new info about the Saturday Hunt in Rock Island.

we will be having two seeded hunts that day. The first one will not cost anything but the second one will cost each person $5.00 to join in. We are planting a lot of silver in the 2nd seeded hunt and the $5.00 per person will help offset the cost of that. For those who did not attend this last year but will be coming this year, we have a potluck lunch and ask everyone to bring a sidedish if they would like to eat with everyone. Also, feel free to bring your own chairs if you do not want to sit at picnic benches. Based upon the numbers I have seen, we are expecting around 100 people or more to attend this. The event will go from 10am till 4pm. It is at the large shelter and there is a parking lot down the hill in front of it. This is at Lincoln Park in Rock Island.
