I don't think much of the SAT on the MXT when prospecting. I set SAT at the recommended preset setting. If the SAT is set higher it stabilizes the threshold but there is a noticeable decrease in sensitivity to small gold and a loss of depth. There have been occasions when I have increased the sat but only in very unstable ground conditions. The SAT doesn't mean any thing in the coin or relic modes. I constantly see where people max the SAT, what am I missing? Hal

Well, in c/j and relic mode the knob that is your sat in prospect mode is your discrimination. I believe that the sat. in prospect mode controls how quickly the ground balance adjusts to the changing mineral conditions. that same knob in c/j mode decides how much metal you want to ignore starting with iron and working up with your vdi numbers. I think that the loss of sensativity may be because your ground balance is adjusting to the gold that you are running it over. You might go to your worst mineralized place and lock your ground balance to that so it will not try to adjust to your target anymore. Just an idea, I hope it helps. I could be wrong, I am no pro!

Thanks Stirling. I keep reading where people max out the SAT while prospecting and your explanation is confirmation that I will continue to use the factory recommended setting in prospecting mode. Hal
