sat .hunt scored1/100

on-edge

well saturdays hunt turned out to be a milestone,i scored what i believe is going to end up being my oldest US largecent, was a pleasant surprise! it's a fractional denomination type with the 1/100 under the wreath on the back,at this point it could be any one of the varieties dating from 1793-1804 as the coin is still in the uncleaned stage.i was going to hunt today but it is raining so maybe i'll just work on the coin a little this morning to at least make an I.D. on it,hoping for a key date, the grading in the red book starts at
AG-3 which is identifiable,so that is good news.i'll keep you posted, wish me luck!

thanks everyone,
well a light brushing and a rinse job took the mystery right out of this one, very pleased to see a date,no key date about this one.
it ended up being a1797 DRAPED BUST LARGE CENT i'm pretty thrilled to have it to say the least.there are actually 4 varieties of this date coin, gripped edge, plain edge, reverse stems, and reverse stemless,i'm still working on the finer details.this was my third hunt at this cellar,i hunted it twice last fall and produce some indians and a nice button hangin out around the well,a broken ring in the road, and another colonial copper that could be a king george or a conn.copper.i'll try to post some of these other finds later.
here are the scans after the rinse job. thanks for looking everyone! HH!

Wow, 1797!!!!!! Great job!!!:wiggle:
