Sash Buckle

Found this last day of June in pulpwood clearcut on old house site near middle Georgia Civil War battlefield. measures 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 inches. Stamped brass, has a tab on reverse. believe it's a sash buckle. I think it is Cupid riding a dolphin. Found pics on net of Cupid and Venus from ancient drawing that is same, and he is holding a spear in the painting. in his legend he just had the bow and arrows on a quest. any comments welcome.

Very nice thanks for posting!!!!!!

That is an awesome find! I have no idea as to its nature? I just know I like the heck out of it! Beale.

; Great find Carey!!!...and you said all the good sites were gone hahaha...any chance that is Neptune on a dolphin?

Steve i think its Cupid based on the old ancient painting found. The little chubby fellow has wings, Neptune did not-- venus, Cupids mother was the Goddess of love in the myths and she was water connected, depicted with the same dolphin image. the curled tails denote movement.

I wonder was it a womans piece or an officer dress buckle. I SAW ONE SOMEWHERE ON A ID FORUM.

that or it's Tony chasing a mermaid-- he is running outta girlfriends on land lololol!
