Sapphire hunt finds

My father in law is an avid lapidary enthusiast, and part of the local rock club, and told me about a sapphire hunt they were having. They get bags of gravel tailings from a sapphire mine in Helena Montana. I purchased two shares in the sapphire hunt to try my luck, and I managed to find sixteen stones in my bag! Six of them are going to get faceted,I am especially excited about the pretty purple one with the orange/red centre. It was pretty fun, it helps with this blasted cabin fever...

Great looking stones you got there. Quite a contrast of colors. That purple one is going to look really nice after it is cut. Show us the end results. I got to check out that mine. Thanks for sharing this with us.

Very nice! I used to have a centrifuge in the basement for making jewelry, but never learned to facet stones. Will your father in law do the cutting?

No, we will be sending them overseas to be cut. A guy at the club has sent some in the past with low expense and great results.

Thanks guys, I will definitely be doing the sapphire hunt again!

Nice gems.
Metal detecting and gem hunting compliment each other.
