Sandy makes for some good detecting!

Somehow I doubt that I'm the only idiot here that is jealous of that guy...:detecting:

I'm not. I will wait until things dry out. Debris is another danger once the storm clears out.

To each his own I guess !!

Because I'm a "low risk taker", I see that as putting self in unnecessary danger. Because I have hunted in the surf a 'few' times, I know that the chances of successful recovery of a detected item dont make the risk worthwhile. JMO

Reminds me of this past weekend. Saturday morning I was metal detecting the Treasure Coast of Florida, specifically Vero Beach just as Hurricane Sandy was offshore. A lot of the beach accesses were closed and lots of detectorists were in town trying to find a way to get on the beach. I finally found a parking spot near Riomar golf course and started walking south behind the dunes trying to get to a shipwreck site. The waves looked like that picture and were trying to pull me out from behind the dunes. When I got to the spot 3 other detector guys were there and one of them was sitting on a beach chair in the dunes with the waves crashing around him. I said what are you trying to rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic? I mean it really looked odd. He laughed and said the ocean is full of them. His buddies were retrieving some of them and they were high end beach cabana chairs made of wood and canvas with a well known private club logo from a resort about 6 miles north of us. We got about 9 of them some with custom footrests. It was the thrill of the hunt and just getting to the hunt site was an achievement. I suggested we auction them off at next Saturday's charity picnic/auction in Sebastian, Fl to benefit a fellow detectorist's medical bills. Maybe hold them for ransom from the private club. AAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRR!

ROBOCOP, was that you who was telling me about those chairs later near Wabasso?

Are you the fellow from Tampa who I ran in to at Bonsteel Park?
If so yes.

Or you may be the other fellow from Tampa that I met at Wabasso Beach?
If so yes.

There were a lot of detectorists who drove over to the Treasure coast from W. coast Florida.
That's a tough 3 hour drive but it was worth it.

Come back Saturday Nov 3 for the big picnic at Pennwood Motor Lodge in Sebastian, Fl at 1:00 PM.
I think they expect hundreds of detectorists to show up.
Lots of raffle and auction items. Some salvage coins, detectors & equipment, demos, etc.

No, but we were on a lot of the same beaches. I was the guy with the E-Trac with the camo wrap on it from Sanford. The gentleman I talked to had the scoop with the curved and looped handles. Going to try and make the bash but it may be complicated by my wifes return from visiting family in NY. Getting her flight back may be rescheduled!

Right that was me. By the Disney Resort. I went 3 days in a row. I'm taking today off and go back tomorrow at full moon low tide.
At Bonsteel Park a guy with a ctx 3030 gave me a tip on a spot where he got a silver reading. I lent him my scoop but it was pounding surf and he couldn't get it. He told me to mark the spot and said it's all yours on a good low tide day. Hopefully that will be tomorrow.

Aha! Nice to have met you. Hope you find something good down there.
