Well, the maps are very detailed. I believe that some of the larger character type numbers are a reference to an adjoining page that is not included in this digital black and white version of the maps the we are seeing. This is noted on the lower right hand side of the legend. Also noted is how the smaller character type numbers along the perimeter of structures are the actual building number/street address that would have physically been on the structure itself. There are various other numbers on these very detailed maps, such as the block numbers, etc. These are explained in the lower right hand corner of the legend. By legend I am refering to the seperate PDF file from the Sanborn Maps website. I hope this helps. Happy Hunting!
