Sand Shark which coil

JCR

New member
I plan to search the shallows up to about 4 feet on the east coast of Florida with a Sand Shark and I'm wondering which coil would be best. I want good depth but not at the expense of having to fight for coil control in the surf. Is the 10.5 coil much harder to control than the 8 inch? Any advice would be appreciated.

I only have the 8" but personally I feel the 8 would be easier to swing in the water for long periods. I know my ATpro is like swinging a 2X6 in the water. So the less mass the easier to swing! that's just my opinion.

I like my 10.5 with the Tiger Shark, but when I get a PI, I will get the smallest coil available for better target seperation.

i've used the shark for 5 years. have all the interchangeable coils. yes, in the wash, if the wave action is heavy you will have a problem with the 10.5 flipping. but, you can buy or make & use a coil brace.
i've never had a problem with target seperation as i very rarely hit two targets at the same time. as for depth - you willl get all the depth you want & more with the 10.5 coil!
as for weight issues - when the coil is in the water the size does not really make a difference. out of the water it would make a difference.
pinpointing is no problem with the 10.5 coil.
the reason i almost exclusively use the 10.5 coil is simple - i get 25% MORE detecting area covered with it. whichever coil you choose - get a good scoop as you will surely need it.
