Sand Shark which coil

JCR

New member
I plan to search the shallows up to about 4 feet on the east coast of Florida with a Sand Shark and I'm wondering which coil would be best. I want good depth but not at the expense of having to fight for coil control in the surf. Is the 10.5 coil much harder to control than the 8 inch? Any advice would be appreciated.

JCR, I own the Sand Shark with the 8" coil and I find it gives me all the depth I could ever want and is very easy to swing through the water. I have not used the 10" but I would have to imagine there would be more drag. I don;t know if there would be enough to make a difference.

Also, pinpointing with the 8" coil is much easier.Good luck to you.

i've used the 10.5 coil for 5 years with no major problems. my rationale has always been that the 10.5 coil covers more ground - so why use the 8? pinpointing is no problem.
whatever you get - the sand shark is a great machine!

I agree the Shark is a great machine, i have the 10.5 and like it very well but do notice some drag while using it in the ocean waves, but don't know how it compares to the 8" coil. As for pinpointing can't see any problem here, always just under the center of the coil.

I have both the 8 inch and 10.5 coils and use the 10.5 inch coil nearly all the time. In moving water, the 10.5 inch coil can get caught and flipped more than the 8 inch. Could put a bracket on it to hold it in position; I have not done so. Both coils have a thin profile so they both cut through the water very well. Not much drag drag difference as long as the coil is not in a position to get flipped up. As mentioned above, both coils pinpoint pretty spot on in the center of the open center of the coil.
