Sand Shark............... which coil ???

Does the 10.5 coil go dramatically deeper than the 8" to make the switch ?

Or are they pretty close ? Will I lose sensitivity to smaller gold with the 10.5".

I believe that the 10.5 goes deeper but have not used the 8" to compare. In wet sand last week i pulled a thin 14K gold ring with three small diamonds at about 12 to 14" deep. I got it on the second scoop and my scoop is 9" long.

It was just a whisper that broke the threshold and after the first scoop was out it sounded pretty clear. If you do a lot of beach hunting i would recommend the larger coil.

I like the 10.5 inch for area coverage. Don't think it gives away much on sensitivity compared to the 8 inch. I have both coils and the 10.5 inch stays on the Sand Shark; 8 inch is essentially new. I have an older Sand Shark with a connector. Down side to the 10.5 inch is that it can more easily catch wave action and flip it up or down without an additional coil brace. 8 inch does not catch the waves nearly as much. I have not added a coil brace yet. I tighten the nylon bolt and carry an extra bolt in case I over tighten the bolt and break it (has happened a couple of times). If the wave action flips the coil too much, can either moved to deeper water where the water movement is not right on the coil, or move to wet sand.

I went with the Sand Shark with 10.5 coil and the Tiger Shark with 10.5 coil. Should have Freshwater and Saltwater covered.
