Sand Shark verses Tiger Shark

Hi Everyone
I am looking for an all around detector and really like what I have read about the Tesoro brand. I would like suggestions on a Teroso model that can be used on land as well as in the water fresh and salt. I will not be diving only wading. I have read the Tiger Shark doesn't do as well in salt water as fresh but is also good on land and for an all around detector is a good choice. The Sand Shark I have read is good for the beach and salt water but I haven't seen whether it is good for land or whether it would be a good choice for an all around detector. Does anyone have experience with both as all around detectors? For land, beach, and wading does anyone have a preference of one over the other and why?
Thanks for the help and suggestions

The Tiger shark would be the better choice for a "all around detector". The Sand shark is a specialized piece of equipment IMHO.

You need to know how much junk iron is on the beach you plan to hunt. If it has a lot, even with some chatter the Tiger would be the better choice If your beaches are relatively clean or could have older iron relics go for the Sand shark.

Good luck and HH.

Firstbiggestmost has it right. The sandshark is a Pi with no discrimination so you would be digging every bit of tinfoil, nails, bobbypins, etc on land with it. For land hunts you would be much better off with the Tigershark, I've used it as a land machine and it performs just fine. You say you will be hunting fresh water and salt water, what you need to ask yourself is how often will you hunt salt water? If it is only a few times a year then you'd be best off with the Tigershark. It will run on most salt water beaches if tuned properly however you need to run it in disc and with the sensitivity lowered slightly, it will still false but good signals are easily distinguished by sound and repeatability. False signals will fail to repeat when checked several times. Also, where would you be hunting in salt water? I have run my Tigersharks in Florida on Clearwater beach and a few other sugar sand beaches without much difficulty, however on the west coast of British Columbia it is very very difficult to run the Tigershark. Notice I didn't say impossible, I've done it and found some good stuff but it isn't easy and the falsing takes a lot of the fun out of the day. So.. how mineralized (black sand) are the salt water beaches you are going to hunt? Ask some locals on the forums to see.

[size=medium]Thank you very much for the help. I don't remember where I saw it but if I remember right the site indicated that the Silver Umax could be used on wet sand. Could this be correct? Also any suggestions where I might be able to pick up a used Tiger Shark or would I be better to buy new?
Thanks again for help

Hello,
I doubt if you will find a new Tiger Shark, they are having problems with production. For a used one I would PM Scully on this site. He knows more about the Tiger Shark then most folks.
