Sand Shark users.....

I recently bought a Sand Shark with the 8" coil and was wondering if those using this detector use a stabilizer for the coil to keep it from moving while searching.
I made one for mine, but have not used it yet and even without it, the coil seems pretty tight.
Thanks in advance for any replies,
Felix

Felix,
I've got an older Sand Shark with a connector and have 8 and 10.5 inch coils. When I've used the 8 inch coil, I did not have problems with it flipping around at all. I use the 10.5 inch coil a lot more. In water that moves a lot, the 10.5 coil gets flipped if it gets out of line with the water movement. It normally gets out of line with the water movement when I am trying to recover a target or get pushed around and am looking for footing. I have not added a stabilizer. I tighten things as tight as I can by hand and carry a spare nylon bolt and wing nut in case I snap one. I dislike adding more overall water drag like a stabilizer may add. I also like to change the angle of the coil to adapt for the different swings used when in the water or over wet sand. A stabilizer makes it more difficult to change the angle. I say, just get out there and hunt with the Sand Shark and add the stabilizer if your conditions indicate you need one. You experiences with it will guide you.
Cheers,
tvr

I ordered a plastic coil stabilizer from an on line dealer. The first time out I stepped on it in the surf and it snapped in two. Well I wasn't going to buy a second one from them so I made one and all seem to be well . Went out five times with it so far and no movement in the toughest surf . I used a plastic hanger and a dermel tool ,both item sitting around most of our homes.Good luck and HH,Tom

I don't have a problem with my 10" coil moving around, but my detector is new.
