Sand Shark query

Stevo

New member
First off, greetings from England. I've only just discovered this site and think its fantastic. As a keen beach hunter theres so much more information on here than I can get on UK forums which focus on inland relic hunting.
Today I bought a Tesoro Sand Shark which is my first PI machine. I've read as many posts and reviews on it as I can (including many from here which helped me to decide) but was wondering how you more experienced guys & girls use it. Is the pulse width on preset good enough or does it need to be higher ? Is the machine better in VCO or normal mode ? Any tips appreciated. I'm just looking for a steer in the right direction so I can hit the beach running.
Many Thanks
Stevo

Stevo,
I run the pulse width about half way between the preset and full. The higher you set it the more battery you use. Setting it high may make a slight difference in depth, but my experience with it is that it does not make a lot of difference in depth. Listening closely to a repeatable threshold rise as opposed to not listening as closely makes the most difference in detection depth.

I like vco mode. For me the pitch rise as well as threshold volume change catches my attention more than just the threshold volume change. In normal mode it does seem to draw out the duration of the threshold change just a little. Try both and see what works for you. Also try different frequency (pitch) settings to see what you pick up better.
Cheers,
tvr
