Sand Shark mode

Can anybody provide tip on best mode to work in? I took the SS out yesterday for the first time and worked mainly in the normal mode. The threshold on the VCO mode doesn't seem to be quite a stable as the normal mode. Does one give any better depth than the other? I have read that some people prefer using the VCO mode since it's easier to pinpoint. I appreciate any feedback.

I started in normal and switched to vco and have not gone back. Personal preference for two reasons:
I do feel it is easier to pinpoint and I hear the pitch change as well as volume change in the threshold when near a target. That dynamic in the tone with the pitch change catches my attention better.

I'd suggest spending at least a few hours with both modes and see what feels right for you.

In the time I spent in normal, I did not notice a depth difference when going to vco.
