I went to a local swimming area today and found two gold rings within about a foot from one another in only about 2 feet of water.
I found the 1957 2 shilling coin in about 5 feet of water.. a surprise find for me being in the U.S.
I also found a few other coins and oh yes, many hairpins, but I ain't complaining
Thanks for looking,
Felix

Awesome finds! Congrats on the gold and cool coin!

Some nice finds, that is unusual to find a 2 shilling coin, also commonly called in the UK a 'florin' or a '2 bob bit' and produced from 1849 until 1967,but although we called them a florin they are not to be confused with the much earlier medieval gold florin which are ultra rare to find.

I guess it must have dropped out of a pocket from someone that was on holiday or vacation as you folks call it.

@amberjack,the year of that coin the answer if it contained silver is 'No' as i understand it after 1947 i assume because of the war years the metal content on most of our silver coinage was changed to 75% copper and 25% nickel, prior to 1947 they did contain silver but in decreasing quantities, the earlier Viccy version had a very high silver content but as the Royal mint found out it was more expensive to produce these every day coins they started reducing the expensive metals like silver.

Although i do like very early hammered silver coins,i still like the hey day of Viccy milled silver coins i call them the Gothic era, something about finding a decent coin like that is very pleasing to the eye.

thanks mega,

didn't think they had silver, we went from 925 in 1946 to 50% up to 1964 then copper nickel from 66 on..

have found plenty of smaller vicckys here no florins or crowns, plenty of pennys , but I will keep looking, heaps of 3d;s and 6 d's few shillings no big ones YET :sadwalk:

thanks for the reply
