Sand Scoop

I built my own sand scoop and it works great in the water. Soon I'll post a picture of it. Just a brief question, or maybe 2. What is the best sand scoop to use when searching the DRY sand areas? I plan to search a lot of dry sand after a kite festival. (Might be a new or different kind of place for others to think about searching.) I don't have a clue how productive that might be but there are lots of folks sitting in the sand areas for a few days participating or watching the kites.
The second question might also be placed in the Explorer forum but I thought it had more to do with beach and water hunting. What is the best size and manufacturer's coil to use in that dry sand with my Explorer SE? I use a swingy thingy so I am not too much worried about weight, but it is of some concern. Any suggestions about a Double D versus concentric for the dry sand?
I have an Excalibur 1000 and will go with that when I get in or near the water. First time I used it was in the Bahamas and later I'll post a picture of the Bahamas ( and me of course) and my finds. Nothing with high value but some interesting stuff. Thanks! GOM

I think any long handled aluminum scoop will work good in the dry sand. It's light and the long handle males it easy to scoop without bending...

Here is the scoop that I use. There are also scoops similiar to this built with wire mesh.

one is kinda like a combo, i can use it for shallow water and damp zone - Reily's Model #733

other is a great scoop for the dry where the targets are shallow - scoops unlimited - Med. model

i find myself always heading to the damp even if i am going to hunt the dry, so i carry the bigger of the two most of the time.

for your information only

Hi Guys,

I like the looks of the wire cage in the bottom of the scoop. Is it stainless? I like the welded stainless wire for strength.

Regards.

This scoop is like haveing the best of both worlds. Very well made.

I'm designing something along those lines for Bill Babbs to make up for me. I want the wire mesh in the back of the scoop to be doubled up and run at a 45 degree andle to each other to catch all those pesky aluminium grommets from swimsuits and sneakers and let's not forget tiny canslaw and chains that love to slip through the holes of my regular scoop.
