Sand scoop for E Coast Fl.

CMan1

New member
Hi guy's which sand scoop would you use in E Coast beach and size. I have been using a 5 " x 7" that is light. I use a XP Deus I can hit my targets in 12 inch of surf in Cocoa low tide. It sometimes takes a few digs with wash. I would like to give the scoop to my wife and pick up something larger.
I saw the T Rex yesterday but not for me. Today Juno saw Stealth looked stronger.
Any model preferred in Stealth 7 -9 inch 90- 20 degree or bracket preferred.
Will the scoop be okay in Daytona or Edgwater packed sand never hunted there yet. Will it have issues hitting rocky areas or used in lakes.
Appreciate help with model or another brand.
Thanks,
CMan1

I use the T-Rex 9.5 Wet Sand Scoop. Even with that monster there are times that the surf washes sand back into the hole so fast that I never get down to the target. Of course when I finally give up I just know that it was a Honker of a Gold ring. .

CMan: My wife bought me a Stealth 7" x 6" high x 14" long 20 degree tip back handle mount a couple months ago. It is an awesome scoop and you can dig deep in a hurry. Opted for the super rugged option with the toe pad and 48" wood handle. Sprayed the handle with polyurethane. It was pricey at $270.00 though. Great scoop for the hard pack of Daytona. Don't know how it does in a rocky beach, but it is pretty rugged and has a lifetime warranty. You get what you pay for, so for my money (or in this case my wife's) I recommend the Stealth.

Same model I had in my mind. Maybe the 7 inch would go in easier in harder packed sand then 9 inch wide.

Nothing moe disturbing when the hole gets floaded just when your almost have the item.

All I can tell you is the 7" works well. Not sure how much more weight or bulk the 9" would add. Happy hunting CMan!

Thanks everyone Stealth 720i Tube rugged Hybrid 1/4 rear holes 20 degree 48 inch ash handle lift assist unit being welded now!

I have the 9" Stealth straight handle. Love it. I do wish I had gotten the 20degree tho, but that's personal preference. You absolutely cannot beat Sunspot's warranty. They even fix other brands for an nominal amount. Fantastic customer service- ive never experienced better than when I ordered from them.

Sanderling mentioned he sprayed the handle with polyurethane. I'm spraying mine as well third coat so far.
I cut the bottom ash handle at 20 degree angle to fit snug against Stealth scoop This will give a tight fit at bottom and handle won't roll if bolt loosens.
I also installing boat bimini clip brackets to pole to add a strap from luggage to carry in long walk or for tether to drag scoop.
Inside scoop added magnet to catch metal.

Tried Stealth Sunday Cocoa Beach, and Wabasso. Excellent one shot to take coins out of wet sand. Note sand filling low tide.

Walking holding handle I had to carry scoop semi behind my calf leg. Otherwise XP Deus would give me a metal tone 3 feet away.
Dragging unit would add to much sand. Handle was nicely balanced to carry. I did rgh. 3 miles today was okay to carry. I will try a luggage strap next time.
Drying in Fl. wind for ash handle 4 coats poly dried in 21 hours kept it under fan in office overnight.

I did pre sanded ash handle 500 wet grit. It slid into scoop last night smooth no scuff's. Nice coating on handle held up so far.

Maybe someone can tell me why pictures after rotating don't rotate correctly. Is it size of picture thanks.

Nice job on the scoop CMan! Every once in awhile I check the tightness of the bolt. As far as the rotation problem, I do not think the size is a problem. Depends on your program. The one I use requires me to save the photo once it is rotated. I use Microsoft Office Picture Manager. You should get many years of use out of the scoop. Send some of your Cocoa finds. Curious as to how that beach compares with Daytona.

I added two more bimini clip connectors for my luggage strap. Two day's using it works excellent. Strap over my head for padded area to go on shoulder.
I can switch shoulders to swing Deus with my other arm. Two day's 6.5 miles. I wish surf conditions improve.

GeorgeinSC informed me about Werner Tool Lasso.
I bought two one for my wife's scoop and one to hold XP Deus when digging with Stealth.

Has anyone ordered with the carbon fiber handle? Please chime in.
