Sand scoop design - curved or V-point?

I'm plan to try doing a little shallow water detecting and would need to get a sand scoop, but I'm not sure what design elements I should look for in a scoop? I've heard "the type of bottom often determines what type of scoop would work best" but haven't been able to find any description as to what scoop design work best with what bottom. Where would you choose a V-point scoop over a curved front scoop? Large holes vs, small holes? I live in Michigan, so would primarily be in some of the Great Lakes, so small inland lakes and maybe even a nearby river that I think may hold some goodies. Thanks for any advice!

I use this homemade scoop for lake hunting ... the small holes on the bottom come in handy when chasing small targets like stud earings and such... this scoop isnt the best option for surf hunting as the Atlantic Ocean tends to want to rip it out of my hands ...[attachment 357109 20150111_0810072.jpg] for surf hunting i have a heavy duty stainless v cut scoop with lots of holes which speeds up the sifting process which is important if you are timing the next incoming waves. .. the heavy duty scoop is also good in marble sized gravel and small rocks as it can take the abuse better..only drawback is weight, its very heavy after awhile... i forget who makes it but there is a well known brand that is stainless with all 1/4" square holes and round front that looks well made but not crazy heavy...

I like the Stealth 720i. It has a v-shaped bottom and let’s me get into tighter spaces. Mine is the hybrid model with the carbon fiber handle. Good luck!

Over the years, I always used a rounded steel lip edge. Recently bought a Stealth 920i with a steel “V” lip edge. It is a beast and I should have switched years ago (it also has a lifetime warranty). I prefer 1/2”-5/8” holes and do not mind missing micros. Others will add smaller mesh to the scoop to make recovery of the smaller items easier. As mentioned, all depends on what medium you’re sifting, what you’re willing to let go, and personal preference. Good luck to you!
