Sand banks

I take it you mean sand dunes. Most places you can't hunt on the Sand Dunes as they have Sea Otes planted on them and you are not allowed on them as they are protected. Now up next to the dunes you can hunt where the ocean has washed out the dunes. You have to swing your detector on the Horizonal and that gets tiring and have never found much unless the dunes have really been cut down. Then it is worth the hunt where you can swing on the horizonal and the vertical at the edgde of the cut down dunes. Hope this helps. Later Jerry aka Tinfoil

Hi Tinfoil,

I actually mean the mounds of sand that are washed up directly in front of the ocean, sometimes they are long and very high.I only scan dunes at the edge as wearen't allowed to go into them here in Ozz.

wave action . I don't make it a habit of hunting the dry sand unless I am looking for the small stuff and have to be in a very patient mood to dig all the small stuff. I hunt 2 hours before into and 2 hours after the low tide. I start in the middle of the tide line and Zig Zag or S pattern the wet sand so I can fine the coin and jewelry line. It will be a straight line sometimes about 2 to 4 ft. wide in a straight line. Just look over your shoulder and look in the spots you have dug then go back and hunt in that line. Instead of me going thru all this go to this web spot. I was written by a very old friend that died a few years back. His name was Norm. Or the goldenolde. One of the guys maintain it and I think his name is the Guvner. Anyway go there and read everything he has written about Beach and water hunting. He taught me so much and I miss him a lot. Here is the address http://www.thegoldenolde.com/ You will find so much information on beach and water hunting you will be amazed at the things you need to know. I too have never found much when the sand is piled up on the beach. Hunt the cuts and all the low areas that is your best bet. Later Jerry aka Tinfoil.
