Sand banks and troughs

Hi all,

would someone be so kind and put a photo of a trough and a sandbank in the forum,i have a problem knowing exactly what these are.

thanks a bunch..

Don't have any pictures handy but in Central Illinois we have sand bars in our rivers. They are mini beaches normally found on the inside of a turn of the river. However, there are many more "sand bars" visible now than in recent years due to the lack of rain. With the rivers being so low, there is sand in the middle of the waterways that has not been seen in recent memory. I haven't been lucky enough to find much more than some pull tabs, fishing lures/hooks & some clad. HH

Thanks for the reply Diggin,
is there a spot in the forum that covers sand banks and troughs with a picture,i am never sure what they exactly look like.I seem to remember this topic being discussed but it was a while ago and i didn't see much in the photos.I am a beach searcher mostly.
Maybe someone will read this and i may get some more response lets hope anyway, thanks again for taking interest.

Toss this question out on the Beach hunters thread, or you could google youtube "metal detecting beaches" and watch some of the vids posted there.
I hunt beaches up here, a person can get at the waters edge, and look down the beach for visible signs of a trough by the indent into the normal beach area. If you are in a trough, you will know it, theres lots more heavy targets. Some troughs are in 4 feet of water, its all depending upon the wave action..by cracky if you get into an old one, work it for old glory and dont stop for anything! It might be under 3' of sand by tomorrow!
