same old question again--what :bounty:is :confused:the best

That's a loaded question so look out! I've only owned a Land Star as far as BH goes and I think it's an excellent machine. It's light, goes deep and pinpoints great, it's a very good all around general detecting coin getter. Very easy to use, I don't even use most of the features it can almost keep up with my M6. Alot depends on the type of hunting you plan to do, a person needs to do alot of research to find the right machine to fit their needs. You don't want to out grow your machine to fast or get one that discourages you because it takes to long to learn.

As Nailbender stated, it depends on the hunter and what your hunting for...Some detectors are excellent nugget shooters, but lay down and die on deep coins...others are coin shooters, but could not locate a BB...Others are great for relics and iron objects...Give us a little more info on your hunting desires, and we can hook ya up with a detector in your price range...

I like having a dept indication. The Elite 2200 (same as the Discovery 2200) has 4 audio tones, nine graphical indications as to likely targets and also gives a dept indication, however the depth is usually not as deep as it says. I can pinpoint and 95% of the time the target will be in or under a 5" dia plug cut.

I now use rechargeable 9v batteries so the cost of detecting is now almost nothing. I like the Elite 2200 and think it is a GREAT value for the money ($139)

If you meant Pioneer 202, then I would go with that, or add a little extra cash and get the Pioneer 505...The Discoveries ARE great detectors also, but carry a little higher price tag...I like my Land Star, but at $350.00 new, it can be intimidating to a new hunter...They can be found used for $250.00 and up...
Now the Best Bounty Hunter by all accounts is the Time Ranger, but again, price and a learning curve come with the package...

Both machines mentioned are very close in performance. In fact the $300 BH's aren't exactly leaps and bounds ahead of the $100 BH's from a performance/results standpoint. The only advantage the SSII will have over the pioneer 202 is a true no motion all metal mode (which is very handy at times). Depth indicators on BH's (and many other machines for that matter) are junk and unreliable at best. The best depth indicator is knowing the limitations of your machine in the given soil conditions, then raising the coil off the ground until the signal disappears. You won't go wrong with either machine, both are fun and both will produce. I say which ever one you can pick up for the least amount of $$$. JJ

well fee-bay is discriminating against members that do not have pa-pal:ranting:i was looking at the pioneer l and they refuse my high bid because i do not have pay-pal.fee-bay owns pay-pal----no wonder????the det. sold to somebody else that has pay-pal--all they do is nickle and dime you to death.:thumbdown:so,guys be careful when dealing with them sellers.----------------------------------------------bill

I have a sharpshooterII and like it found lots of coins and a ring it also has a all metal mode. My friend has a quick draw II and in disc mode will find coins at the same depth as mine, but in all metal mode mine will go a few inches deeper.

9 ARROWS ARE NOT ENOUGH
IT CAN TELL YOU ITS A COIN BUT NOT WHICH COIN
YOU NEED 100 NUMBERS OR MORE ON THE READOUT TO TELL
SO YOURE NOT DIGGING PENNIES ALL DAY AT A NEWER PARK
ANOTHER ALTERNATIVE IS AN ANOLOG METER

I agree with 9 arrows not being enough for visual ID but numbers are only accurate until you come across something deep. Shallow to moderately deep coins will visually ID fairly well, even with just the 9 arrows. Tone is key. Most of the silver coins/rings I have dug put a smile on my face before I even started digging. Silver usually will not stray from the highest tone to the next tone down, whereas clad usually will with multiple passes from different directions. You being an analog meter kinda guy, I'm sure you can relate to tone. Unless you are chasing gold or silver jewelry, I ask what you are doing at a newer park anyway? JJ
