Hi,
Spent about 3 hours on the Outer Banks in NC, specifically The town of Duck. The AT Pro ground balanced using the auto mode at 13. I was not wearing boots so I stuck to dry to semi wet sand, avoiding the surf...most of the time. Shoes got a little wet!
I'll start by saying that the targets on this llightly traveled beach are slim. There's no public parking, so access is limited to those who are in walking distance of there properties. Not like Virginia Beach Oceanfront. I was dreaming for a shipwreck coin. It is a little frustrating trying to learn the AT Pro when there's few targets.
I found: 4 dimes, 1 quarter, 3 pennies, and a filet knife......Ouchhhhh. My daughter was glad she didn't step on it.
First mistake was that it is very difficult to use Pro Mode without headphones, near the crashing surf. You just can't hear the signals clearly. So I stuck to standard mode most of the time. If I tapped the coil on the sand it falsed every time, so I really needed to be carefull to stay up an inch or two. I ran at one notch below full sensitivity. I tried full sensitivity, but got too many non repeatable signals. I was very confident that if something was down there I was going to find it.
I plan on drilling that extra hole in the shaft to move my arm cuff back an inch. I am fit and my arm was getting pretty tired because I think I need more support further up my arm.
Here's my question /comment. I found that the majority of my salt sand/water targets had some corrosion. The coins were all worn down and had signs of corrosion. When I checked my targets with Iron Audio they all had a slightly negative audio sound. I am wondering whether that was because of the salt conditions and the corrosion. My ear is not trained yet and I am still learning, but I was getting some crackling sounds on many of the coins I dug. Was wondering what other people thought about this?
Thanks
