Saltwater beach help....

New member
Going to be using the CTX at the beach for the first time ( Maine/New Hampshire salt water). Just wanted to get opinions on the "best" settings for dry and wet sand. Don't have any intention of submerging the detector, just wanted to go out on the wet sand at low tide, and check out the dry sand...Any help or direction would be much appreciated, thanks.

Put your machine in beach mode and engage seawater. Everything is ready. You may need to make a few changes but not many. Minelab says you do not need seawater on out of the water so try it both ways. You will turn seawater on and the CTX is very deep so get a good scoop. As far as getting the CTX wet I have had no problems with mine and it has been WET. Go slow and let your machine do what it does best. Good Luck and HH :minelab:

The mode sea water is very successful
The CTX is stable even by pushing the sensibility to 30
I specify in manual mode never in automatic on the beach
I also use this mode in the lakes of fresh water and that goes deep

The default beach settings has a small area I believe in the upper right side of the screen set for disc. This can disc out some older silver coins or so I have been told.

I dont know if it matters but I hunt in GH's combined pattern and in the beach and saltwater I just enable the 'seawater' option on edit. Seems to work great, no chirpy or anything. Hunted with it this past weekend in Galveston in about 2' of water, with waves, etc., and never missed a beat. I used the dry land pattern because I am really used to the sounds.

If you're not in the water, hunt like you would on land. Saltwater beaches are typically low in magnetic mineralization, so I'd use one of the Separation modes designed for that type soil. Work parallel to the water's edge and sweep slow. Do NOT implement Ground Balance.....let the software maintain the proper ground phase. HH Randy
