Salt water

I have used both the MXT and the DFX in Northern CA around lakes (Tahoe) lots of black sand and had great luck. How will the MXT work in salt water beach? Any suggestions.
Thanks

Works good. Will have to turn down the sensitivity in very wet sand or surf.

If in the surf and it starts to break up as a wave breaks over the coil you will have to turn it down a little more.

I have used it this way and made quite a few recoveries and had a good time. Just be super careful not to drop it. Especially in salt water. It will just eat up the insides. Rinse it off at the end of each day to remove all of the residual salt. You may also want to put a little grease or Vaseline on the connector cable ring where it connects to the control box.

Note the haze as you look up and down along the coast line. Well, that haze is also all around you. It is salt water spray and will coat the outside of everything. If you want to throw a plastic bag of some kind over the control box it would probably help. I did not. Mainly because I am too lazy and did not want to mess around with it.

After two seasons of vacation beach hunting and wiping/rinsing it down most evenings about all I see is that the screws are starting to look frosted. The beginning signs of corrosion. Probably would not hurt to coat them with some paint or nail polish or something to protect them.

Oh, and the screw ring on the cable connector is showing signs of corrosion. I dabbed a little silicone grease on the threads and have not had any problem. Don't know if it would hurt but I kept it out of the electrical connections.

It excels in dry sand. Quarters a foot or more. Change about 6" in wet sand. Other detectors may be better around the salt water and sand but, how many can you afford?

Thanks Lee, actually I have several and would like to trade one for a surf master. I will take your information and use it, plastic bag and all. If you know anyone who wants a whites 5900,Tesoro Lobo, and various other whites turn them on to me. That would be great. Thanks again for all your input.
