Salt Water Beach Hunting?

Howdy--

I'm planning a trip to Daytona Beach for a little R&R and I plan to take my V3i with me. I'm a true rookie when it comes to beach hunting and I was hoping that there are a few experienced beach hunters that can give me a tip or 2 regarding strategy, settings and coil selection. I have the following coils and plan to take 2: 4X6, 5.3, 6X10, 9.5, D2 and 14"DD. Any help will be greatly appreciated! Best of luck and ...

Of your coils you need to use the 9.5 which is a concentric coil. Use the salt beach program and either mixed mode or stereo mixed mode.

I have to agree with Rob 9.5 is best for the beach. I have used the 12" concentric also just for more coverage, but it does get heavy to swing.
Shortcut

Never know if you end up finding trashy spots near steps, volleyball set ups, etc. where you would need a smaller coil to sniff out the goodies.

Running with the 22 kHz program and the small coil in the dry sand, you will pick up lots of lower conductive targets ( foil, aluminum, etc.) but the chances of finding gold jewelry increase. Unfortunately the only way to find gold on the beach is to dig more trash.

All VLF detectors lose the ability to see small gold when in salt mode. So if you can G/B in the dry sand switch out of salt mode, then switch back in the wet sand.

Only use The salt beach program for the wet sand Hunting and use the coin & Jewelry program for the Dry sand hunting ......Also when wet sand hunting always try to be facing Towards The water so no surprise waves hits you and turns your V3I into a paper weight.

Thanks for your input Shortcut1224. I forgot about my 12 coil! I have only used it on my relic hunts. You are right - it does get heavy after a while. Best of luck and...

Howdy Therover-

Thanks for your suggestions. I've always been partial to the smaller coils. I like the separation and the manueverability. I WILL be using the 22.5 kHz. Shucks, I'll probably end up taking 3 coils! Thanks again. Best of luck and...

Rob in (Ca), now that IS practical advice: Facing the water. I'll remember that. I don't need another paper weight! Thanks for your input. Best of luck and...
