salt mode ground balance

hi this weekend @ the beach I put my cz in salt mode, I tried to ground balance but it never gave me a tone to do it, do you have to ground balance in beach mode? or it disables the ground balance in that feature?

if someone have more exp in cz on the beach it would be great how to hunt there with this awesome machines

mines going for repair but I want to keep learning

Its been at least 10 yrs since I hunted saltwater beaches but here goes..

Get yourself a tide table and work the tide out...bend down and look for low areas or trenches...using the salt mode you weaken your unit rel depth and likeness for small items so would hunt in the reg mode and put up with the noise as good hits will sound different...I hope you have the sens and volume at max when ground balancing to hear the changing sounds...dig all solid hits or you may indeed miss some nice gold jewelry..Good luck and eat your Wheaties as walking in the sand can be tough...

Unfortunately some beaches are so severe one has to use a PI unit or hunt in severe low sensitivity...I hunted Atlantic City beaches which most days were doable but on others were bad depending on what the waves brought in...

But this is not a mineralized beach, it simply didnt gave me the screaming sound

I use the "Bobbing method" to ground balance. I think it is on page 11 of the CZ-5 manual. Place the detector in auto tune; turn up the sensitivity (and if needed the volume) until you hear a threshold tone. Then push the coil towards the ground and lift it back up. Adjust the ground balance until you can't tell a change in the threshold as you raise and lower the coil. Salt mode over the wet sand at a salt water beach works the same as normal mode over regular dirt. If you can't get a threshold tone, mention that to Fisher when you send the detector in for repair for the discriminator knob and meter.


When I hunt salt water beaches, I run in auto-tone and when I get a target, I just flip the discriminator knob to Disc 0 to get an ID on the target. The sensitivity is up around 9 to get a threshold on my CZ-6a to hunt in auto tune. I don't change any other settings to check the target other than flipping from auto tune to Disc 0. When I decide to dig or move on, it gets flipped back to auto tune to best locate the target center to dig or to move on looking for the next target.
