Salt Beaches ..........

Has anyone using the E-trac on salt beaches and if so , how great is it . I am looking into getting the Sov GT for the salt beaches , but if the E-trac does just as good , why bother. Thanks for any responds

The Sovereign is a very good machine but it is not for me . I use the E.Trac on the beach and its far better for tone I.D. and Target I.D. , I detect sand sometimes but mostly wet and dry shingle beaches and have had over

Yip I would agree with Nuke em,the Etrac works just fine, although I have never used an Sovereign,I dont have the need for one.I always use the all metal mode with open screen unless there is a large amount of ferrous in the ground.I have found 16 gold rings this year so far,13 of them were at the beach.the TID'S vary from as low as 12-03 for a fine girls ring. And up to 12-25 for heavy mens rings,
Sure am happy with those results, there is no falsing, just ground balance and away ya go.....all the best

Thank you for your response Nuke and Jim , Nuke you said ground balance , do you mean noise cancel ? I have never GB the Etrac. But i do use noise cancel . Now if using noise cancel is ground balancing the Etrac thats what i thought.

Kiwi jim did mean noise cancel !

I have a lot of hours on the Sovereign, Etrac, Excal & Explorer. On a saltwater beach with black sand, I would make the Etrac my last choice. An Explorer will beat it hands down every time for depth, especially an Explorer II. The Sovereign/Excal will also, in my opinion, provide superior depth vs. an Etrac, but the Etrac has a more user friendly target ID system.

Just my opinion, but if I had my choice of one ML machine to use on a saltwater beach it would be an Explorer II.

All very well wanting depth to the max but I have had all the types and I do know that the Explorer's are slower than the ET though CTX ? and the one biggest problem with the Explorer's now is the fact they are no longer sold or at least made . And the early Explorer XS and 2 no longer have service support I have been told , at least from Minelab ?
The Sovereign is also not sold or made now which will mean they are on the slippery slope of no support in the future.
If you set up the ET properly it will give you plenty of depth and at least you get tone i.d. which the Sovereign you don't and at near full depth the numbers are reasonably accurate too.
I would chose the ET over all the others on the wet even if there is a risk of ? depth loss ? As for black sand just go 2 TT ferrous and go slow. If then still not good enough maybe a P.I. would be the best road to go down.

TY for adding and say you bought a new Sov GT and got a 3 year warranty and they stop making them. I would think they are going to take care of it for that period of time and fix at no cost buy shipping ?

I had the Sov GT when it first came out but did not like it , they will be supported for quite a while but eventually they along with the Explorer's they will lose there servic support. The Explorer's S / XS / 11 have already i have been told and so have the early Sovereign's ?

Sorry guys, yip I did mean noise cancel, not ground balance.I think I mentioned that I always hunt in an open screen on the beach I find it saves a lot of time mucking around with different programs, even if you have to put up with some ferrous rubbish but I find it great for seperating targets, mant times I have found a coin or similiar right beside a rusty nail,I just listen to what my machine is telling me and its the old story if in doubt "dig it up"......happy hunting

Open screen would be best with 2 tone ferrous I think .
