Saint Christopher Medallion

I thought you would like this in your forum, although I do not usually post here. I found it on a football field. It looks to be copper or bronze.

Any input as far as age would be appreciated.

Hi Camman - welcome aboard ! One time I went to a Catholic church and a guy had a book that showed all kinds of styles and dates of medals. You might try that. The one I was looking for had a date of 1839 on it, thought I had an oldie. Turns out the date was a memorial to something that happened then but was only 10 years old or so.

Good luck on your digs - post up what you find, Steve in so az

NOT SURE OF AGE BUT HAVE SEEN ONE BEFORE. MY GUESS WOULD BE 40'S OR 50'S? GOD BLESS :)

I remembered something about that saying because one of the guys on the forum (Leslie) found one that was in Latin.

Looks like all of the "miraculous medals" have the date "1830" on it. As the story goes, that's the year a nun had a vision and spoke to Mary who instructed her to make the medals... whoever wore the medal, especially around their necks, would receive "graces". Not exactly biblical :) but interesting.

Weird thing is she was buried in 1876, exhumed in 1933 and appeared to be fresh as a daisy even after being dead all that time :) She's actually on display in a glass case near an alter under one of the spots she susposedly had the vision. here's a link to the story.

saw the head of Christ in a tortilla while back, had people lined up for blocks to see it. I guess people like to be hyped up for "religion". Steve in so az
