Safety Gear for Water Hunting

Some wear vests, some wear BC's while diving, others wear no safety gear at all. It REALLY depends on how comfortable you are in the water and how much you value your life. ALL coast guard and sheriff officers wear vests.

My friend Tom Weaver drowned while wading 6 years ago:

He was in shallow water. I also know of two others. I ALWAYS wear safety gear if only a wetsuit that makes me float like a cork.

When wading in the ocean, I keep a pfd attached by short rope to my scoop. Scoop is attached to me via a Tool Lasso. Theres been a couple of times when a wave has knocked my scoop loose in chest deep water and I may have lost it if not for its float. I am an excellent swimmer and a former college lifeguard but You just never know.

I haven't done the scuba thing yet(tho I am certified). Looking forward to what you scuba guys hit the water with. I cant imagine scuba-ing without a BC, but that was how I was taught.

Reach up and feel behind your ears, if you don't feel any gills there then you need to wear

a PFD. Don't Do Stupid !

What is a BC? Boat Cushion! Just put your legs through the side straps and wear it like a diaper! :lmfao:

I told ya I was new to all this, lol. I do remember putting my legs thru a life jacket and sitting in it while sipping a beer before. Interesting....

Yeah Dgruff! Thats how I wear a lifejacket also! In my Family we call it a 'swim diaper' Its actually quite comfortable, and like you said, a fellow can just float around in comfort sipping a cold one! Heck, if a guy had to wear a lifejacket and stay afloat overnight, this is the best way! A much more practical way to stay afloat than having it buttoned up around your chest with you face in the water..:crylol: Y'all should give it a try...its like floating around in a La-Z-Boy, and you can wet yourself when the need arises with no embarrassment...
