Safe deposit boxes

steve in so la

I thought I'd pass on some info for anyone who hasn't thought about this - using a bank's safe deposit box for your valuables. I have been using one for many years now - price is always $23.00 per year.

Besides keeping my dug gold & silver jewelry there, I keep old coins, small collections, etc. Also have important legal papers that might burn in a house fire. It's a pretty good deal for peace of mind, especially with all the burglaries in the US. steve in so az

I was wondering if my Dad might have had one for a will or something. Unfotunately the bank will not discuss anything about his account with me BUT they insist I give them a copy of his death certificate. Wondering why I should give them anything if they can't tell me anything. A simple yes he does or no he doesn't have a safe deposit box is all I need to know and even if they get the death certificate they will not tell me.

My brother said there is a will. I haven't found one in the house so assuming he had one at a bank. So what happens to safe deposit boxes where the people die - obviously if they don't pay the yearly payment then they can't keep using something they haven't paid for but what happens to the contents????

Just curious. To find out anything about my Dad's account I have to have paperwork from the county probate office in the county he lived in and pay $150 to be designated as executor of his estate. So then I become responsible for his debts?

Hope no one has to go through taking care of someone's estate - its a nightmare.

How is Sherry???

she feels 'ok' (her words) when just sitting but if she does anything like bending, getting up to go to the bathroom, etc. she starts hurting and crashing. She said she was going to call a doctor today. Its after noon now and she hasn't called anyone.

Good thing I'm a good housewife. DIshes are all done and put away, working on laundry and need to make lunch. (Talk about getting in touch with your feminine side....with the TED hose - compression stocking I have to wear to keep blood clots from forming - I have to hand wash them in the sink and dry them on the shower curtain rod in the bathroom...not sure I want to be any more 'feminine' - doing more than enough already.

You are a good wife! Take care of her! :)

Pete - I planned ahead and put my son's name on the safe deposit box. So when I die he can go , take everything, and let it run out. The state will take a percentage of stuff in AZ. steve

may be due you. When a person doesn't pay or dies before they quit using the safe depost box or don't cash all money out of a bank account...everything goes to the state and there are ways to check with the State to see if there's anything due your dad and now you as executor of his estate! Don't know how long this takes but it does happen! You might try the Interent finding money due you in yours or his name! Also lost income tax monies can be found too when checks were lost or not cashed!

Hope this helps!

God Bless!

But be careful some sites will charge you for this info which you can get yourself!
