Safe 9X8 Cover Removal Video

POLEWAGGER

New member
I made a short video of my method of taking off the 9X8 coil cover.
Critical comments are welcome.
I thought the volume was too low...let me know if it's OK or should I make a new edit with upped volume?
Thanks for watching...hope this will help those who have broken or are otherwise having trouble removing their cover.

Wow I had no idea it would take 5 min to remove my coil. Video is great but needs to be a bit louder. I just can't believe I can recover 5 targets faster than taking my coil off. It s a love hate for me, I love how tight it is and hate tring to remove it. Honestly I think it could be made if more of a lexan than a hard crack able plastic, but that's me.

Or just order a new one evey year and clean it once a year.

Thanks for sharing , I would most like slice the epoxy off the inside of the coil if I used a knife like that.

If I drag a magnet through our dirt, it comes up all fuzzy with iron sand. Letting that build up inside the cover would NOT be a good thing!
Use a DULL knife!

Here's a re edit with the volume boosted all the way.

Rather than a knife, I use nylon pan scrapers. Wife used to sell Pampered Chef and I'd get them free. Now when I run out I'll have to go buy some. I keep a couple in the tool box when working on the cars; keep a couple on the work bench for things like working off the coil covers.

I am more and more hunting without coil covers since I've had some detection degradation due to junk in the coil cover.
Cheers,

POLEWAGGER,

I cringed when you rapped around the coil with the plastic frame of that brush. Can't believe that does the coil windings any good. IMHO, you were a bit too rough ! Suggest brushing and then washing under cool water to remove the loose debris.

The volume on the first video sounded fine to me after I turned it up a little on my COMPAQ speaker.

Otherwise, nice video !

Very good point ToddB64.
I wouldn't recommend doing that on a non epoxied coil, but I wouldn't expect a little tapping to hurt the 9X8.
That's also why I always use a cover. I wouldn't want to wear the underside down to the actual coil wires or break a chip off on a rock.
If I'm wrong, I would hope a Tesoro rep will chime in.
Have tried it wet, hot, soapy, etc. but that's the method that works best for me.
Thanks for the comment and compliment!

You really seem to have a good method , it's just hard to believe. Or just buy a new one every year, when you bust the old one off...lol
