Safari vs. X-Terra 70 with 10.5 DD 7.5 kHz

Hello all,
I just purchased a Minelab X-Terra 70 with an additional 10.5 DD 7.5 kHz coil on December 24, and it will not even be here until Monday. I have read several reviews, ect, and purchased the 70, as well as took the sales persons advise to go with the 70. I do not hunt nuggets, only coin and relics. I called today under an assumed name, and the same sales person that suggested the 70, told me Safari is a much better machine? Is this a commission salesman push, or did I make a mistake in my purchase of a 70 for my hunting preferences? I just do not know enough about the Safari, and would like some expert advise.
Thanks everyone.

I have the 70 with the coil you mentioned mounted on it right now and relic hunting is 90% of what I do. I don't know much about the Safari, but I'm sure you didn't make a mistake. If lightness was a preference when you went looking the first time, you got the right machine. Unless you're over 6'1" in height, you will probably need to order a shorter lower rod too or cut down the one that comes with it. Believe me, it will make a difference. Also, for balance you'll probably want to put your digger (in its sheath) under your arm strap if you're hunting a large area and swinging for a while. I do know that the Safari about a pound heavier than the XT-70 and from what I hear the balance is not great on them either. The XT-70 has a proven track record, don't know about the Safari.

Thanks Canewrap,
The track record is impressive on the 70. I just could not believe the sales person changed their preference like that. This detector was a once in a lifetime purchase for me that I have saved and saved for, and I just started second guessing. I appreciate your comment. Have a great day.

How many sales persons have you encountered over your life time behind the counter really knew what they were talking about, its a sale.
Its what you want. The best sale person is here on this board. You will find a lot of people in this board to help you. And you will have a hard time finding any dislikes about the X70, if there is any. I think you will be happy. "You didn't go wrong".
Doug.

I will say you did good. I do not relic hunt "yet" with my X-70, but would like to try it out. I really think you will like the 70. It is a great machine, Beale.

If you have a warehouse full of slow moving machines and someone calls in looking for advice on what machine to buy, of course the salesperson has been told by the boss to push the slow movers like the safari. When you called the first time you actually got a true recommendation on your needs from the salesman. I would not get to upset over , its just the way retailers do business. But you got the best machine, the xterra 70 can hold its own with anything out there costing alot more and is more diversified in where it can be used because of the 3 frequencys of coils you can add later.

Well if you made a mistake in buying the X-70 then we are all in the same boat. Look around to see how many posts you see about the Safari. No doubt the Safari has it's fine points but the market on them, (from what I hear has cooled down). When you get your machine it will undoubtedly put a big grin on your face. I feel that in the end you will realize as I did, that the only mistake you made, (As I) is that you didn't get the X-70 sooner!!!! Happy Hunting.

Bob....Plain and simple...you got the right information on the X-Terra-70. The X-70 with the 10.5 DD 7.5KHz coil is a perfect match. I hunt mostly coins and relics also and have recovered 74 CW bullets from a battlefield that has been
"hunted out". In fact I have started saving for a second X-70 as a back up. HH TomB

I DO prefer the X-70 over the Safari.

The round 10.5" MF 7.5kHz DD coil is a wise choice for absolutely sure.

Forget the Safari, next step up is the E-Trac if you have big $'s otherwise the X-70 is the next best and VERY GOOD and has much faster ground coverage than both and look at the great X-70 depth report below. The Safari has about the same depth as the Explorer Quattro as listed below.

MINELAB XTERRA 70 by Jack Lange
DEPTH
...This detector goes as deep as the expensive models (Explorer Quattro Sovereign) in dry beach sand, all soils, but does not go nearly as deep in damp beach sand because of the salt effect. Especially when set in

Thanks everyone. I feel better now. Can't wait to share my finds as soon as I start swingin the 70.
Everyone have a great day!

because your legs and back are gonna be hurting everytime to bend down to pick up a nice coin or relic so you can blame the 70 for that :clapping: Mate asking a question like that here will only give you one answer  Safari? whats that?
Cheers!

Hi Guys
the xt 70 and the 7.5 dd coil are a killer combination. I,ve gone over hunted out ground by other detector users and im diggin coins everywhere. The deepest at 14" on an australian 1c piece!. i thought my detector was falsing on this signal, but it was true to its tone. The xt70 is the best machine minelab have ever brought out.

The X-70 is great machine, and with 10.5DD 7.5 coil you will find lots deep relics, coins ect. By the way What company tryed get switched to Safari?? Chuck

I don't think there was a negative answer for the X70. I love mine and just purchased the 3K 9" coil.
The safari cost a few hundred more, and probably is a better detector for certain things. But the way I see it if your finds are 18" or less then I'm happy with my X70. The Safari would be a nice SECOND detector.
One problem many have is they don't find what they see others displaying on the web so they blame their detector. BUT IF IT AINT THERE IT AINT THERE, and no detector can find what isn't there.

Waiting for spring, and researching now.

I have had both the X 70 and the 50 still have the 50. I loved both machines, the 70 was definitely better than the 50. I haven't owned a safari but it has the same FBS technology as the Explorer from what I understand. I did just get an Explorer a couple of months ago and noticed a huge difference, so much deeper and accurate I was amazed at the difference the oldest coin I had found with the X-Terra's was a 1910 wheat penny then within my first couple of times out with the Explorer 1903 Indian 1906 Indian and 1894 barber. the depth was incredible. I know some X- Terra 70 users will hunt in the prospecting mode for coins but I never did and I only used the stock coil, but if the Safari is anything close to the Explorer well i would have to lean toward it, don't get me wrong I love the X-Terras and will probably buy another 70 but what a difference in detectors. :surprised:
