Safari to Etrac or buy a second Detector

I have an opportunity to upgrade from Safari to Etrac without loosing any money on my Safari. I really am liking my Safari but can see some real advantages in Driving the Cadilac and not the Chevy. That being said for around the same money I could add a xterra 705 to my my closet. The xterra should be better in tot lots when looking for jewelry and it is also very light and easy to swing. So here is the question trade my Chevy in on a Cadilac or take the money and keep my Chevy and buy a jeep to go with it.

Any opinions

P.S. I had a big debate on where to post this Etrac Forum or Safari/Quattro forum.

I had a Safari for two months - it's a great machine .
I thought about upgrading to an E-Trac almost entire time I had the Safari - in the end I sold the Safari and bought an E-Trac.
This was two years ago - looking back ... it was probably the smartest thing I've done in years !

You make some good points about the xterra being lighter weight and for the jewelry , I just bought a 705 for my fiance and have not had a chance to get it out so I can't give a review from my experience with it. What I do know is that I love my E-trac and problably will not swing any other detector until they come out with a new model . I have only 3 months on it and my silver count is 6 times what it was last year and I am still learning it. I wish you luck with whatever decision you make.

Get the Etrac and pick up a smaller coil for it and you will find jewlery with it too. With a smaller coil like a 6" or 8" it will feel really light and can still go really deep with these small coils way better seperation and hit on small stuff hard.

I think you will find those that excel with any of the top of the line machines use them a lot and often rather than try to learn two or three machines at the same time.Just look at some of the results many of the old timers get with 20 plus year old machines because they have learned their machines intimately.

Trust me, if the jewelry is there you'll find it. Like another posted with the E-Trac and an extra coil you can cover a lot of different types of hunting. I use it for beach, relic, parks, woods, fields, all over. I still have my AT-Pro for wading, bad weather and sweeping for clad when I'm in the mood but the E-Trac is a very versatile machine that will find much more than just deep silver.

Two points that hit home

Easier to learn one detector then two

Etrac is a very versatile detector

Looks I may be going for a Cadilac

Unless you live on a beach or an area with gold I do not see any reason to go with anything other than Safari or Etrac.

If I was going to have back up detector I would make it an A T Pro hits hard on gold and jewelry.water proof very good in trash about 2 inches less in depth than FBS Minelab detector at 1/4 the cost.

Etrac will not find any more coins than Safari or get any better depth, all FBS have a plateau as how deep they go,only after market coils will gain you an inch or two if you are lucky.

This late in the game I would just learn the Safari,I agree with everyone above learn just one detector well.Besides I think Minelab will soon bring out an updated version soon to compete with X P deus. If you can get your dealer to give you full price of Etrac to trade in on newer if new greater updated model comes out say in 90 days.Go ahead.

You need a good after market coil regardless of what you do for Safari or Etrac.

What the ETrac will give you that I like is Backlight and the sensitivity readings. The rest is all fluff, including the duel added FE readout, but if it makes you feel more confident go ahead.I would check out XP Deues if I were you ,if you are going to spend that much money.I have a friend that his only hobby is coin hunting and was in love with his Etrac he bought XP Deus and now is trying to sell his Etrac.I do not know if you have Pawn Shops in your area you may want to check may find great deal on used Etrac.

Never seen a minelab or fisher at a pawnshop and I like bargin hunt pawnshops. Have seen bounty hunters and whites. An Xp Deus have to say that is tempting on weight alone. I do feel that much of the advantage of the Etrac is lost if going slow is OK since the Safari has the same engine just slower recovery and less discrimination resolution. A lot of the good and bad is clumped together with Safari. A new Minelab had not heard that other then in pure speculation. I do think I could gain a lot with a smaller coil for my high trash areas.

Where I hunt aluminum trash, pull tabs, and screw caps are my biggest obstacle. In some places it can be almost impossible to swing more then a few inches with out hitting it. I do think the Safari is a very underrated detector. I am still learning here music but I think I am making progress. I am forcing myself to hunt by sound. Since from what I can tell the Etrac uses similar sounds my time on the Safari is helping shorten the learning curve on an Etrac when and if I chose to upgrade.

It is a tough call. Thanks for all the input so far

Get the Etrack, I just update from a XLT to the Etrac with a WOT 15", last weeken was the first time out and let me tell you I was sorprise of the depht on the coins that I was hitting, regular domes at 11". I own a Sov. GT as well but now when I was getting to know the souds on the GT I change to the Etrac and what a diference too, yes I agree get to know one machine and keep the other for back up or for a friend that whant's to learn about the hobby. but it is not to complicaded because in 2 days of hunting I began to understand it's languge and capabilities, Great machines both teh GT and Etrac,
