The not so friendly UPS man is delivering my new Safari today, any advice on setting for the Beach's of fort lauderdale?
any help is appreciated
thanks
John

Congrats John on your purchase.. The manual will suggest coin/jewelry mode for beach hunting . I agree with that for beginners and novices as I've had my detector since March and primarily use that search mode here on the Jersey shore. Air test the type of coins and jewelry that you would expect to find. You should prepare to dig at least a foot for many recoveries Get comfortable with that then try other search modes.
BTW - See ya at the Los Olas Blvd. intersection at A1A.. Just kidding, used to live in Lauderhill section in early eighties.

John,
Definitely air test some coins and rings of different sizes. (more small women's rings are sold then large men's rings) Listen to the sounds. The id on the display is secondary. Easy digging on the beach so like they said above...dig it all. That will help you learn your sounds and VIDs quicker. Don't get discouraged by all the pop tops and bottle caps you are about to accumulate. If you are leaving a half inch or more footprint...don't waste you time there. find some more stable ground.
Good Luck and HH,
Bunker

Bunker, what do you mean by a 1/2 inch footprint.
Sorry if I sound dumb.

John you will love the Safari on the beach. I am getting Australian pre decimal coins (earlier than 1966) on beaches regularly detected by others.

Peter, we have this metal detecting guru (Tom Dankowski) here in Florida that did a test at the beach. Gold is very heavy, if you are leaving a foot print in the sand that is about 1/2 inch deep the ground is too soft to support gold. It will sink out of range within MINUTES. When Tom tested a gold ring (with dental floss tied to it) it sank to 23 inches within 2-3 minutes. Might as well go find some more stable sand that will hold the items up for you to find. Hope I explained that okay. He has a 2 dvd set out that goes into both land and water hunting. Google his name and check it out.
Good Luck,
Bunker

Thanks Bunker,
Explained & understood. Will check out the video.

Hey Pete,
Hope to see some of your finds soon.

Use manual sensitivity (not auto) for great depth on the wet sand. I could run mine smoothly at 19 in Maine, Newport Beach and San Diego.

If you havn't aleady, buy a Sand Scoop... Long handle stainless if you can afford it. Plastic for a season....

Picture your finds and send them in so we can see ...
