Well I finally got some silver today, a 1950 D Rosey. I also picked out a couple of wheats, a 41 and what looks like a 1914 no mint. I think I might be gettin this thing after all. Signals were iffy and I almost gave up on the hole where the dime was it was reading a 37-38, couldnt find the thing! Glad I didnt

True. Very much love hate. Moving at snail pace did seem to help me a ton though. I have a detector pro pistol probe but I find it hard to pinpoint with. It gets like 6 inches of depth! I wana get the garrett pro pointer next. Josh

Could not find the dime.Where was it when you located it..Side, deeper, etc. ????????? I had same problem with Se get signals and could not find the target..

It was in the pile of dirt I dug out. Ive had lots of signals that are good and strong, dig the hole and then I cant find it again. No tellin how many coins Ive just thrown back in the hole. Guess Ill find em later. Josh

Once you break the "halo" of a coin that has been buried for some time, I find it hard to relocate it in the plug I have dug up. That's with the 11" coil I am tallking about. Seems like the whole plug is a dime once it's out of the ground. I find a pinpointer a must. onus

MY pinpointer has saved me alot of time and searching. I will check the plug first with the detector, same as the hole. If it is still in the hole I will stir the dirt like I'm stirring pudding or poke, by ding this you can circle around the edges of the hole. Many times the coin has ended up just outside the plug and not quite in the hole. Give it a try !! Ron

Nice going on the silver dime, hollywood!

I, too, finally got my first silver with the Safari a week and a half ago...a '41 merc at about 5". The signal bounced between +37 and +38, then bounced from +36 to +38 after digging out the plug.

I also got a very neat 10 cent trade token, about the size of a dime, but it registered on my screen as +20, even after digging it out and waving it over the coil. Not quite sure what type of metal it is but at that value it falls between nickel and copper. Probably is a low grade copper as I see a hint of patina on it.

Below are pics of both.

Ray

Nice finds, I have found a few street railway tokens over the past few years. They are as small as or even smaller than a dime and are copper like an older penny. They give good strong signals. Ron

Do yourself a favor and buy a garrett pro pointer, u can thank me later ;)
