Safari advice

Just upgraded to a Safari from a Sov GT and was wondering if anybody could give me some tips. Firstly, let me say that I will be using this on the beach 99% of the time. I would like to reject out zince pennies and wonder if there is a potential for me to miss any good stuff by doing that? Also, would I be best served using the coin/jewelry mode for beach hunting? Machine hasn't arrived yet but I'm trying to get a head start on the learning curve. From what I've read so far, it seems to be a fairly easy machine to master. Thanks for any feedback.

Jeremy

It is fair to say that you can scrim out zinc pennies with no problem and not have to worry about missing anything good. Coin and jewelry is made for the beach so there is no problem with that either. You can also get Andy Sabisch's book "Mastering the Quatro" as this will help you with some of the learning curves of the machine. It is an easy to learn machine and you can also make some of your own custom programs to suit your hunting needs. I was out today doing the town common and then a school yard/ballfield. I scrimmed out all numbers except 12-15,24,36-38 I found more coins and less trash. Sometimes if I want to just look for silver I keep 37,38 and scrim out the rest. To each his own whatever works for any given area. This is probably the best forum for advice and to help you learn the ins and outs of the machine. But, the best way to learn is to get out there and just use the machine. It shouldn't take long before you get effecient with it. There is no substitute for hands on training. Hope this helps Ron :detecting:

Hi,Rollie 29.
I have tested 12 gold ring's with the safari in coin and jewerly prog. here is the numbers 6-13-14-15-16-17-18. This was my 12 ring's. other ring's,may show another numbers.
My tip for the beach, dig all good signals.

Jens.

I love my Safari and do not feel undergunned in any way shape or form in the field.I will however be trading mine in towards an E-TRAC in the near future as it may better suit my needs in old trashy sites.I bet the Safari will be killer on the beaches!

CONDUCTOR7E is correct, the Safari is killer on the beach. I used C&J and cranked sens. to 18 ( mem. penny 15 in.) wet sand. Fla.

Very good impression,I hunted a small area I had hunted before with Whites XLT. Found 14 coins and 2 old silver rings.

Another beach mode is the Relic mode you don't want to miss the fine gold rings that you could possibly miss in the Coin/Jewelry mode. Remember you are going to dig some junk on your way to the gold. The more you discriminate the more you loose depth.

Jenkiel,

Thanks for the good advice, I took the Safari on it's first run this morning and it hit a 10k class ring (almost 1/2oz). Going to see if I can track down the owner. Works like a charm.

Hi Rollie. Nice to hear. Yes it's a good maschine. I am finding more and more at places I have hunted before as I am getting more used to it.
Tomorrow I am going to a friend of mine's old farm together with The Norwegian Minelab dealer. At that place,it's possible to find silver coins from year 1600 ++.
Maybe we are lucky. Fun to find the owner, only did one time.
Help, winther is coming soon, what shall I do? Move to Spain or something?
Good hunt.

Jens.

Was on the beach yesterday Misquamicutt State Beach in Rhode Island, USA. There were 3 other guys with detectors 1 white's, 1 tesoro, 1 was too far away to ID. One guy with the tesoro missed the silver spoon ring, It was 10"-12" deep, found my share of coins also. I used factory settings coin/jewelry and auto sensitivity. It kicks butt on the beach, I take my time and work it slowly and let it talk to me. I showed the guy with the White's some of my finds, he showed me some of his. He was a nice old guy 75+ yrs, he said the ring I found was in the sand a very long time, judging by how thin and tarnished it was I would say he is right. CONGRATS to Rollie on his Safari and the class ring good going not a bad start !! Ron :detecting:

I also love the Safari - Mine runs better when not on Auto sens - this is the biggest improvement i have found while making adjustment. If I run at 16 or 17 which I can do in my trashy 1875 yard - I get about 2" more depth and stronger hits on good targets. Bit more noisy, but worth it.
