Sad day at Camp Blanding, FL

Years ago, myself, along with a guy that was in my club used to go to Camp Blanding, the US Army National Guard post near Starke, FL to hunt the big lake there. We used to find plenty of jewelry, silver, etc. off of where the NCO club is from WW 2 to present day. Unfortunately, with the passage of time, a flooded detector, and career change that kept me out of the water and from hunting Blanding. Since I am getting a new Excalibur, I decided to make arrangements to hunt this great lake again. Much to my dismay, when I called the Post Commander's office to see about gaining permission to get onto the base (post 9/11 security), the Sergeant I spoke with informed me that as of last year, there was no more metal detecting allowed on post, anywhere. When I asked her why, she didn't go into much detail, other than to say that certain people made it impossible to be able for anyone to hunt there again. I hope it wasn't an inconsiderate detectorist that caused this issue. It breaks my heart to see another great spot shut down to our hobby.

P.S. If anyone knows the reasons or has heard anything about this, I would be curious to know...
