5 in one hunt.
Thanks to all of you responded to my post asking where war nickels hit.
I got some excellent responses and you fellers' pretty much confirmed exactly what I feared...that they can hit ANYWHERE from 12-12 to 12-20something
I have spent a gazillion hours training my ears for deep silver and injuns...and 100% of the time I hunt by sound alone.
For whatever reason my nickel finds increase when I swing the E-trac...but I concentrate just as much on the number readings as I do the sound when doing so...which is different than I do on the explorers. Now this doesn't hold true on silver and injuns'...as they are 100% by sound on the E-trac too for me...but the nickels aren't.
I think I'll play the law of averages and start giving 12-13 thru 12-15 hits a shot when swinging the E-trac since a few of you said you have hit some there...and hopefully I can rescue a war nickel from the turf.
I'm sure I'll rescue quite a few tabs and can slaw as well though.
Between the Explorers and E-trac I'm over 100 injuns' and at least 150 silver at this point for the year. There's NO way I haven't passed my coil over a silver war nickel yet...I've flat out just walked over it I'm sure....and that tics me off
Yesterday I refused to dig high hits...concentrating only on hits with ferrous numbers of 11-12...to conduct numbers of 11-15.
Did I find a war nickel...NO:veryangry:...but I did break my single day nickel record with 5 (including the 1883 V)....while also obtaining a very sore back. The one in the clod ended up being just a junker nickel...so I didn't even put it in the scan. It still looks cool in the clod though

I think I'll just stick to searching for deep silver and injuns'. With my limited hunt time...it isn't feasible for me to chase lower conductors.
If I'm at a site that is giving up real oldies...sure I'll give a few nickel hits a shot...otherwise I think I'll leave that 1 out of 500 digs gold ring... and occasional sweet v nickel or shield nickel for the rest of you fellers'
Seriously though...THANK YOU to all of you who responded to my earlier post with advice on war nickels. I DO appreciate it...and WILL use the tips on where they hit.
I wish I had more time to post my E-trac finds...but I simply am too busy working on different detecting projects...and trying to find personal hunt time for myself...while making sure my father is doing okay on his kidney dialysis.
I only post my explorer finds...but I do frequent here often because I do swing the E-Trac about 25% of the time.
Make sure you fellers' enter the contest for the 1854 seated half dime on the Explorer forum too.
