S.E. Problems

As the hunting season here is coming to an end I am finally strong enough to go out for a couple of hours. My summer was pretty much wasted due to health issues. Many of you made some great finds and I sure enjoy reading this forum! Now for the problem. I hunted a park yesterday for about two hours. It dates back to the 1870s and has been hit very hard. Lots of silver has come out of there the last 35 years. I noticed my SE was nulling out quite a bit. I think that is the term. It would work fine but there were times where there was no threshold thru the headset or any noise at all. In spite of that I did find about 6 clad coins and a wheat cent. So should I send it in to be checked out? I have a couple of bean fields I would like to hit but if the machine isn't working correctly I may have to wait. Thoughts? Thanks! Ted

Whoops!! Sometimes I am my worse enemy when it comes to this stuff! I called up dealer extraordinaire Ralph at Sun Ray. Ralph said read the owners manual. The machine is doing what you tell it to do! I feel pretty dumb. I did take the coil cover off and cleaned a bunch of dirt out of it. May try to get out later with my new found knowledge! I can't say enough about Ralph and Elaine. Super people and if I need anything you can bet I will order it from them. Just wish he lived closer but he is only a phone call away! Thanks for the kind words Ralph!! Ted

Try lowering you Sensitivity until you can get a Threshold. Many times when I get to an area that has no Threshold and is a constant null I will lower my Sensitvity in Manual until one can be achieved. I have dug many a good coin running real low manual Sensitivity. When I say low like 12-16.
Also, clean between the cover and coil. This has caused many a people problems who forget to do so.

Got it cleaned up Mike! In the park yesterday it was pretty clean ground. I was running my sensitivity at 26 manual and it wasn't erratic. Just wish I would have healed up faster than I did. There are a lot of coins out there and I am going to get a few!
