s.e.f.coils

i have the 12 by 15 and am just amazed at what this coil will do as far as depth. the other afternoon i dug a powder flask at about 20 inches in an area that has been pounded to death since the 60's. i also dug a suspender buckle that was down at least a foot. but i got to tell you, it will wear you out in a new york minute, i think im gonna have to invest in the swingy thing. if you have the mxt pro, in relic mode and tone one the threshold is real iffy, i switch it to tone two and the threshold settles down a whole bunch. but they are pricey to say the least, and i still cant firgure out the pinpoint on this loop, maybe someone can jump in on that. went to a spot yesterday, again pounded to death, i went to just play around with this loop, dug a few bullets that were shallow and a couple of knab sack hooks that werent all that deep. i think im gonna hang on to it, i dont think its a bad coil.

I have the 10x12 sef on my mxt. I think it's great. I have found quarters at 12 inches. Pinpointing is exactly where the coil bolt on to the shaft. The signal is very stable also. As far as weight goes, the 10x12 is almost the same as the 950, ma bey an ounce more. I cant tell the difference. I have another mxt for my kids and I will install an sef coil this summer for them.

Here is an option you might want to consider Jerry. Try the Super 12" conical coil in your sandy ground and you should do better all the way around. More depth and the bottlecap rejection will be much improved over the SEF. The SEF and DD coils LOVES bottlecaps. There has been some good buys on the 12" here lately on the classifieds, less than $90 on a couple of them, I bought one for $80.

I'm not dissing the SEF, I use the 10X12 all of the time on my V3i and love it, but I have very mineralized ground and that is where the SEF/DD coils excel by design. I think you would be happier with a conical coil in the sand.

I have the 10 x 12 fitted on my machine - excellent bit of kit but a pain to pinpoint if more than 4" down - and it's MORE sensitive than my 6 x 4 coil...........:surprised:
