S. E. F. Coil and The new E trak coil?

grumpy

New member
Can anyone tell me if the new E trak , SE PRO coil which is an 11 inch spider looking coil and the SEF coil are alike in performance?? We tried a SE PRO with the new coil and it works amazing and seperates trash extremely well but we are running a GT regularly and are wondering if the SEF coil is comprable to the new stock coil on these machines?
Also does anyone use a Excelerator elip, or the Joey 5 by 10 coils on the Sov machines??? Would like to hear how they compare to the stock 8 inch for trash. ????
Thanks for any input

Hi Grumpy,

I have tried several coils myself for the Sovereigns with some I like and some I did not. The 8 inch Coinsearch is a great one to learn the Sovereign with and will work in trash too and one of the famous all time coils. I never was a fan of the 8 or 10 inch BBS coils that come on the XS2 and the XS2a while the new 10 inch Tornado coil that comes on the GT is a great one and use it mostly and been told the 8 inch Tornado coil also works as good as the coinsearch coil, but waterproof. The S-8 and the S-12 of Sun Rays have surprised many as that S-12 does go deep and will separate well too in moderate trash. I did the field test on the S-12 for park use and really hated to send it back as I was digging old coins out of a old park we had pounded for years with many differnt detectors. The 8 inch I had I let a guy try it and he kept it and told me to buy another one as he was keeping it when he dug 4 mercs in a hour at a well worked park at 10 inches deep.
Now the Joey I love on the Explorer, but didn't like it on the Sovereign for my hunting, the same as the WOT as I felt the S-12 went deeper and was lighter weight for park hunting I do, but hear the WOT will do good on the beaches. I just got one of the 15X12 S.E.F coils for my E-Trac and got out once to try it before the ground froze up and it seems to work good, but a lot heavier than the SE Pro coil. I would like to try a 12X10 on the Sovereign in the spring, but will wait until then before I get one if i do as i would like to hear of a experienced Sovereign user trying one out and see their opinion on it.

I hope the SE Pro been doing well for you, it is a great detector and I would have kept it if I hadnt got a E-Trac and was doing great with it. Can only use so many detectors and wasn't going to give my GT up.

I mainly Beach hunt and I used to use the Wot coil on my Sovereigns till i tried the 12x15 SEF, since then i have sold one of 2 Wots i had and used only the SEF till i sold them together as a bundle. Same great performance as on the SE which i now use, from what ive heard/read the 11" pro coil and the 10x12 SEF are about the same only the 11" wins by being lighter, but the 12x15 is slightly deeper than both of them, if you hunt the beach i would say the 12x15, but maybe in parks with lots of trash the 10x12 might be better as Rick suggests as there is no 11" to fit the Sov.
