I do not like to hunt with headphones,----the speker derects the sound away from the ear. -- so i made a simple sound reflector that rederects the sound right at my ear and its amazing how much better the sound comes thru tried it out tonite and i had no problem hearing the very soft threshold humm . I hate headphone cord i get all tangled up and have to be set free by passers by like a bird from a snair now with this new inovatev space age MODe i am free, It is made from a wheatys box but i am looking into better sound transmitters like aluminum or egg cartons , i was going to get a tube to go from the speker up and over and facing me O well works good Gunnar in Minnesota

Hey Gunnar,

As I look at this post of yours, and hear your complaint, I can help but wonder... there must be a wireless setup (battery operated) headphone for metal detectors. for instance, I have a unit that plugs into my laptop and then I have wireless phones I place on my head and can walk around the house and listen to my favorite music. Someone must have an invention out there for detectors as well. The only thing I wonder as if there would be frequency interference from the detector itself or by cell towers, power lines etc. I sometimes have the same problem with my headphone wire. - Jim

Gunnar if your talking about headphone cord that is straight and not coiled then I can understand, but there are good inexpensive headphones that have the angled plug and coiled wire that are kinda hard to get tangled up in.

I bet if you set the threshold how you would when hunting with the outfit you have pictured, then plugged in a set of headphones, you would be suprised how high the threshold is that way. I mostly beach hunt so headphones arent even an option, they are a necessity for blocking out wind and ocean noise.

But make no mistake, you are missing the boat when it come to not using headphones!!!!! I would not only say it is a must but using ones that have built in DB protection from the outside is the only way to "listen"

I have a pair of killer bees and i use them in nois situations but i still hat the things clinging to me but they do keep the mosquitoes from biting my ears

Wow! in my mind this is an ideal setup but for around the $300.00 price tag, I will have to pass. Thanks for the link and letting us know there is such an "animal" for the metal detector world.

I know many dont like them, but you wont see them digging the deep coins either and miss a lot of the other targets too, I seen a guy that never found much other than new coins and he said he didnt like headphones and wasnt going to use them, so I located a few targets and ask him to see if he could find them in a 3 foot area and he couldnt, so I let him put on my headphones and he found them right away and said he heard them real good too, so he tried a set for a while and said he was picking up so much more now than he ever did before. It does make a big difference, but if you are only looking for some clad that is not deep you wont need the headphones.
