rx gain

New member
Been using the vx3 for about a year now. Still have a lot to learn. What is the best and quickest way to determine what the rx gain should be set at when hunting a new site? Do you start high and then adjust down or start low and turn it up as you can, or is there a way to know exactly where it should be set? Most of my issues are related to too much chatter/falsing etc. Also have the same question regarding the AM and Disc sensitivity as well.

Rx Gain
Rx Gain (preamp gain) sets the gain of the receiver

Wow. Now I think my brain is overloaded. I really appreciate your in depth response though. I have read the manual repeatedly but I never really understood what you have so clearly explained Thanks. Most of the soil here in East Texas is sandy loam and you can crank the rx gain up, but there are pockets of iron ore that can give you fits. I will put your approach to work and see what treasure awaits.

East Texas and iron ore. That ore made me a livin' at the time I worked at Lone Star Steel. Yes, you do have pockets of iron ore in east texas. But of course, East Texas includes miles and miles of N/South land. Ore might not be all over ET.

It's all in the VX3 manual. Carl did a great job. :beers:

Great post Rob.......
That would be a good one to add to your "Rob's Links" page.......

As I said, pretty much right out of the VX3 manual.

While the nuts and bolts may be right out of the manual, however the way you explain it and how you apply it to the way you hunt is not. That's what is really helpful to me. Like I stated earlier, I have read the manual many times, but some of it only makes sense when I hear someone with your experience explain it in layman's terms. That is why I really appreciate this forum. I can gain the experience of many years in just a few minutes. Thank you.

OK, hope I can help. :clapping:
