RX, All metal, Discrimination relationship

Relationship of RXG, AM and DS
The most often adjusted controls are the gain controls. Most guys adjust these every time they go out. Here is how they relate to each other.
The transmit signal is sent from the detector into the ground. Unless you turn on the boost option this signal strength is preset and you cannot adjust it. TX (boost) increases transmit signal.
RX is the sensitivity control for the signal that returns from the coil to the box. When you adjust this you increase the sensitivity of the signal going to both the all metal and discrimination circuits.

DS is the sensitivity control for the MOTION (Discrimination) circuit.
AM is the sensitivity control for the ALL METAL circuit.

Increasing RXG increases OVERALL sensitivity.
Increasing DS increases MOTION sensitivity only.
Increasing AM increases ALL METAL sensitivity only.

Unless you are using an all metal or mixed mode program, adjusting the all metal gain will have no effect while searching. It will only affect your pinpointing depth.

Thanks that helps I've been playing around alot with mixed mode. so by turning up all metal it will give better signal back to me? right now running the stock program I really think that it has a lot to offer. I even used it in a trashy area I think it gives better target ID and picks up the good stuff being masked by iron or trash. The slower with this program the better.

If you are going to try mixed mode you might also want to try stero mixed mode. See which you like best. Both modes can drive you nuts in trashy areas.

Try burying a coin and use disc mode. Keep burying deeper until you just barely can or can't hear it. Now switch to all metal, mixed, or stereo mixed mode. Now raise the all metal gain until you can hear it clearly.

Stupid question - have to ask.

I don't think I quite have the DISC SEN fully understood yet. If I want to discriminate out everything except 50 VDI +,as an example, do I have to go into the menu and uncheck the range or could DISC SEN adjust this. I guess I'm confused how the DISC SEN lowers the threshold. Would just the RX lower the threshold?

DS is the sensitivity control for the MOTION (Discrimination) circuit. It has nothing to do with discriminating out VDI. The higher the DS the smaller signal the motion circuit will react to.

Discrimination Sensitivity (sometimes called AC sensitivity) determines the responsiveness of the discrimination channel. This is a threshold level, so only target signals above the threshold cause a discrimination response. Setting this too high will cause noise and falsing inthe discrimination audio.
